Christmas Shopping at Oxford Street

Sneaked out half way of my ID afternoon class today to go shopping. Attendance gets worse each week. Today only 4 of us left. It's good in a way that the tutor can focus more on our individual work, but class gets less interesting since I think he had covered most of what he wanted to teach.

Anyway, the last two weeks will be the final presentation of our work for the whole course, which I don't think I will be able to attend. A shame really, but I'm going to burst if I don't go on a holiday any time soon!

Back to shopping, well I wasn't really Christmas Shopping, but just to get stuff for people...and myself of course. Shopped a bit in Covent Garden before heading to Ox St. It was utter madness to be on Oxford Street 3 weeks before Christmas. It was closed for cars this weekend, and even so, the street was incredibly packed! Couldn't have imagined how it will be like nearer to Christmas.

Spent quite a bit today (suffereing from a tinge guilty conscience). And fell in love with two items which are a bit over priced: a leather jacket (two different ones actually) which costs around £140 (the other one is more pricey...around 40 quid more) AND the pinky beige Karen Millen dress (which Leona was wearing in last weeks's x factor!) which costs £160. Went to try it on today and loved it more! Damn! Wonder if it will be on sale after Christmas (pray it will and size 8 is still there!)

So, without further yapping, if you are thinking of getting me a Christmas present, you know what to get don't you ;) (very thick skin and perasan i know :P) kekeke

Autumn Blues

It had been a busy week at work last week. Got quite a lot done but was quite stressed out because of the rush and high demand of requirements. In fact, my job is like a roller coaster. I can be extremely busy one day and dreadfully free and bored the next day. Went to Googoodolls concert again last last week at Shepherds Bush! We were standing about three rows from the front…and so got a very close up view of them. Apart from the push and crazy girls screaming, it was once again AWESOME!!!

Last Saturday was my first Interior Design class. It was quite interesting…to learn something I’ve wanted to since a while ago…just a bit surprising that there is only one guy out of the class of 14. Or maybe it shouldn’t be surprising at all since the tutor did mention that Interior Design is a girlie thing…which I don’t really agree. The only down side is that there is so much homework. Omigod I feel like going to school again. When’s the last time I’ve ever need to do homework?!?!?!?! This weeks’ homework: put up a Mood Board and Concept Board, research of some of the famous architects and think about a bathroom and an apartment’s layout. Sounds a lot eh? I’ve so far only cut out pics from mags for the boards. Having a full time job and studying at the same time is such a pain. Praises for those who is actively doing both at the same time. After class, met up with Yi Fei and her hsemates and then later went dinner + clubbing near her place, which was FUN!...Went back on Sunday and tried to make it up with Ally (my new hsemate) for her birthday outing which I didn’t go the day before.

After all the busy days at work and fun and ‘productive’ weekend, I was so tired this week. Today is the first day I’ve ever been late to work. I woke up at 10 and luckily I live near enough to be able to get in to work by 10:15. Fortunately, no one really noticed or maybe they did but don’t really care hehe. Well maybe 10 isn’t that late, some of my colleagues do get in around 10+ most of the time anyway.

Besides all that, I’ve also been busy making plans for my holidays in December. Because of that, I’m soooo in holiday mood now. Which is bad since I have to survive another one and a half months. Am taking a day off tomorrow to get my Japanese visa done. And gonna chill and take a break. But again, I’ve got to finish up my ID HW uhhh….Oh yea….another happy thing that happened last week was that I was told I’m getting a pay rise….Yippeee….For once, I felt I LOVE my job so much (*DUHHHH*)…I suppose it really helps to motivate your employees thru pay rise eh?!?! And to increase my chances of getting pay rise more often, please shop at www.ocado.com ;)…just help my comp promote a bit hehe. I still think they should improve their marketing strategy hmm…

Its getting cold…I think I’m going to get sick…

Will miss Schumi in F1 races soooo much….

My parents just called from Shanghai. GOD I want my holidays now!!!

Happy Halloween and Bonfire Night people ;)

The Story of 5 Monkeys

Heard this story from a colleague today...

The Story of 5 Monkeys is a social experiment and analysis of common corporate behaviour.

An experiment was conducted by putting 5 monkeys in a cage. In the cage is a ladder and on top of the ladder is some bananas. One of the monkeys climbed up the ladder to get a banana, another monkey at the bottom of the ladder would be sprayed with water. Every time a monkey attempts to get a banana on top of the ladder, another monkey at the bottom will be sprayed. After a while, the 5 monkeys realised this trend, none of them make any attempts to get the bananas.

The experiment is continued by removing one of the 5 monkeys and replaced with a new monkey. The new monkey sees the bananas on top of the ladder, looks around and climb up to get it. The other four monkeys beat up the new monkey before he manage to climb up since they knew they would get sprayed if the new guy would have got the bananas. Confused, the new monkey tried again and got beaten up again.

One of the old monkeys is removed and a new one replaced. As a newcomer, the new monkey tries to get on top of the ladder and got beaten up as a result. The previously beaten monkey participates in punishing that poor new guy.

The experiment continues by replacing an old monkey each time with a new one until the original five monkeys are replaced with new ones. At this point, none of the monkeys will climb up the ladder to get the bananas and none of them know why! All they know is that if they do, they'll get beaten up.

That's what is happening in some organisations where employees just adhere to policies that doesn't make sense to them at all.

Binging in the office

It's 18:36:15 and I'm still in the office. It's a Friday ffs. And most of the ppl are gone. Why am I still here?!?! I actually wanted to wait until 8 when production starts so that I can do some testing. Oh man, its such a torture not being able to do work when its really something you wanted to get over with. The database is down at the moment sheesshh...And so I guess I could spare some time blogging.

Thinking twice, it's Big Brother Live Final at 20:00!!!Sheeshhh...Maybe I should just go home and forget about work and come back to it on Monday morning. Arghhh...

Ok then I'm going home now :P

The danger of blogging

If it's not of the fact that it is quite dangerous to blog about other ppl, my blog would have been full of rants!

I once read a random singaporean article about ppl losing their jobs, losing friends, couples breaking up etc etc because of what they write in their blog. You are so free to blog about anything to a point where you forgot it is also a so public source that everyone have access to. And that you might just be complaining about how bad your boss is, bs on some shitty colleagues or talk crap of someone else without realising that they might also be reading your blog.

But hey that is the frustrating part. The main purpose of blogging is to spill out what you want to say and tell other ppl although its about any good or bad gossips about other ppl haha. Anyway...I guess that also makes blogging a form of art. Blog it in such a way that'll let your blog readers make up what you're trying to address themselves. ;)

Summer's gonna be over soon

Summer's gonna be over soon. It starting to get chilly again. There goes all the summer clothes under the bed. And come the autumn coats into the wardrobe. Autumn's collection is one of my favourites. Shopping, here I come!

Have been hearing complains from people lately about how boring and mundane life and work is. And here comes a thought - I suppose that is how life should be? Or maybe I could have spiced things up a lil bit by doing something different than the regular friday drinks in pub, weekend shopping in London, weekly visits to the gym or being a couch potato watching what big brother is up to. Last month's motivation and resolution have proven the first step - get a gym membership and ... Yea that's about it. Hmm any suggestions what other ingredients I can add to spice up my life?

Was watching last weekend's grand prix and I can say it was one of the most interesting races of the whole season!!! I felt asleep watching previous races but not this one. Just felt that life is just like motor racing, as long as your in game, you CAN win! Even though racing is not just about winning. But hey, do you compete to lose? And what I mean by winning is finishing the race no matter where you stand. And with this, I supposedly should tell myself this : Hang on there!

Anyway, full of crap tonight. The fact that I need to face the reality of "what" I wanna do next is back haunting me again (if your thinking what this might be, forget it and get on with your life!).

Mid 2006 Updates

Weeee...was not quite interested in updating this blog for the past couple of weeks. Had a lazy sunday today, waking up at 12pm and being a couch potato for the rest of the day...England v Ecuador then Montreal Grand Prix...then some tvb game shows :). And so can't really sleep now though have to wake up early tmr.

Last month, blown the candles of my 24th birthday. Argh!!! So no ready to be 24 duh. Gosh see how time flies. And guess wut, I just found out Gerrard has the same birthday as me !!! 30/05/80 :))). Two people in my list that I know of having the same birthday as me :).

The following weekend, went out for lunch with 'Ma ma' and other relatives who was visiting London. Then to the Goo Goo Dolls concert! It was awesome! Holly paid me a visit and stayed for a week at my place because her training in London. And met up with her yesterday in Manchester to say 'goodbye' since she'll be flying off to Japan in one and a half weeks time. Went back to Kincardine and requested to get my umbrella and old rice cooker from the flat. But the security looked at me as if I'm some idiot turning up to get an umbrella!?!?

Spent too much money this month, but luckily not quite broke yet. Setting some new resolutions to meet for the coming months. Watch out!

Comedy Cafe

Went to the Comedy Cafe near Old Street after work today (yesterday?) with work mates. The occasion was because my line manager is leaving the company next week, combined with a team's monthly outing.

The comedy cafe was actually something interesting. The food is alright...not much to choose from but quality not bad. Since it's a wednesday, admission is free and the event was that 9 comedians do a 5 minutes 'stand up talk' and that the audience will judge who's the best to be able to perform again the following week.

Some were really funny but some are a bit duh...silly and dirty jokes included of course.

Jokes that I can remember:
1. The guy imitating the woman in Marks and Spencer's advert selling tomato soup? (unless you've seen it, you won't undertand this...it's shown in uk tele)
2. The only place you visit and come back with an accent is US and UK...have you ever heard someone who visited India for three weeks and come back with Indian English accent?
3. It's ten to twelve midnight and you boarded the last train home. There is only another fella on the same coach. You slowly walk to him and sit down next to him. Just as the train is approaching your destination station, and just as the doors open, you turn around to him and say this into his face "They are coming for you" and then run, and get off the train asap.
4. You are messing around your friend's mp3 player. Record a voice clip and put in between some of his funky pop r&bs or alternative tunes...track number 14 for example so that when your friend's happily walking back home with his mp3 player playing, suddenly a sound come up ... "You will die!"...
5. A guy decided that he wanted to be gay. But since he has not fully learned how to be one, he's not considered gay, and not considered straight as well. He's therefore being referred to as STRAY?

Work

A few days more before my probationary period is over. The only thing I can say about my current job so far is that, never have I encountered such challenging work in my life. And probably this is only the starting of it. In school or uni, you just absorb like a sponge and occasionally squeeze yourself a bit for exams. At work, I (a sponge) am literally being squashed flat everyday. Every little thing to be done needs my brain to function 101%. And it's very dried up now. Tried to solve a problem for the last 24 hours, and haven't yet get around it. Gonna leave it for now and worry about it 10 hours later...Very tired...If you have planned to jump off the building later the day and are reading this just this moment, just remind yourself that there are millions and trillions out there who think life sucks too!

My Babies

I wanna write junk

Of all the reasons why people blog, is there one that says "I just wanna write junk"?

There are so many things going on in my mind that I just felt like putting them into words.

But of all the thoughts floating around, they will merely form a piece of junk!

I suppose I don't have to have a nice piece of organised and well planned blog entry every time, do I?

So here goes, some pieces of thoughts wandering in my brain now...

blank...

*recalling what I wanna say*...

Watch your thoughts, for they become words.
Watch your words, for they become actions.
Watch your actions, for they become habits.
Watch your habits, for they become character.
Watch your character, for it becomes your destiny

Oh ya...I have always have this question in mind: why everyone has different personalities and why do people react in certain ways that make others "not comfortable" of? Is it that we are just too sensitive to hate or dislike someone who supposedly had reacted in a way that we don't really fancy? Or is it because there is always a motive behind every action?

Can't we just be SINCERE, GENUINE and HONEST??? Is it true that there can never be honesty whenever there is more than two people acquainted in whatever way possible? Why do we always lie? You might say white lies don't kill and that is how people survive in this world. But will this world a better place to live if we just let out what we felt deep inside and accept what others have to say; good or bad; for the worse or better...

We always have genuine excuses convincing ourselves we are doing a good deed for telling a "beautiful" lie. Maybe you won't feel offended if someone tell you a beautiful lie. You might even feel happy that day. And maybe some time later that day, you will start to suspect if that someone is worth a friend you can trust. However, re-evaluating, I suppose you would be approximately 50% happier if that someone tells you what their really thoughts are, wouldn't you?
