A Billionaire

I wanted to start with 'A Millionaire' but with the depressing interest rates these days, having one million in a high interest deposit bond account may only harvest around 3k every month. And for most urban dwellers (like me) who seek for luxury and comfort in life, being a millionaire is no big deal. So, I decided that being a billionaire is more realistic to talk about.

So, what will you do if you are a billionaire??? Well I guess that question depends a lot on how you get your one billion in the first place. The efficiency ranges from overnight to almost your whole life. Some lucky ones might hit the first prize lottery. A wealthy grandfather left a big lump sum of money to the his only grandchild. Or even picking up a blank check on your way to work? (Which is so impossible but the probability is not that depressing as it seems). Others work for it.

I will not go into entrepeneurs stories. As a normal working employee, a big question mark arise when we talk about having a normal working life, 9 to 5 everyday will make you a billionaire or not. I know friends and acquaintances who add more effort into it, 24 7 in the office. H*** knows what they are doing! But from the other perspective, they seem to be the category of people who gets faster promotion and could afford a mortgage and a car before the age of 30. That leaves me thinking...should I be working harder???

Going back to the billionaire story, what will I do if I am so filthy rich. Will I stop working? Will I spend half of it on luxuries? Will I travel around the world? Or Will I do something meaningful like social work? Hmm...giving some thoughts into the matter, I prefer to stay put with my current life. Probably happier. Start to spend without tracking my expenses. Get to buy all the gadgets I want. Dwelving into designer brands. Travel around when I have holidays. Etc etc etc. But hang on a sec...as I am doing all this, will I get bored of all of these one day and may be build up bad habits...

That is the dilemma of life. And in case you are reading this, the story above illustrates what came into my mind half an hour ago where I just came back from a busy 9 to 5 lecture day. If it doesn't make sense to you and you don't feel the pieces of story above correlates, just ignore it! It just occurs to me that I don't feel like revising or doing anything productive for the rest of the night. Will this kind of behaviour stop me from being a billionaire? If so please raise an alarm! Today's lecture: there are three layers in decision making - strategic, tactical and operational. Strategically, I want to be a billionaire. Tactically, I will work hard. Operationally, I just want to sit back and enjoy a dvd movie with my tub of Cherry Garcia Ben's & Jerrys :) for tonight.

Revived!

Its' been so long since I last updated this blog. Well, have been having my exams after the christmas holidays. Literally busy with exam preparation is my excuse. As usual, aimless after such stressed exam weeks. In fact I'm looking forward to going home for the Chinese New Year next week. Wished I had more time and stay longer at home. But just had too much going on these few weeks. And yet, I am bored now! Have been spending these few days after exams on tvb series, Desperate Wives and a bit of London shopping. It's just that people don't work on Saturdays and Sundays that kept me from getting things done! Argh. So, decided to bum and relax over the weekend. Enough of relaxing before work starts again sigh...

Lately, I have been having 'weird' encounters. For starters, a friend of mine pay me a visit. It's been really kind of her to make the effort to keep in touch. And I am glad that we spend the night chatting which was something I missed doing since we started embarking on different routes in our life. A few days ago, one of my long lost contact primary school friend contacted me and asked me to do her a favour. It has been like ... what...9 years?? since I last see her or even talked to her. When people say friend in need is friend indeed, does that mean 'friends' only look for you when they need something from you? Looking back, I do admit that I have this problem myself. Probably I should be considerate enough to consider that sometimes we are just so busy with our own lives that we only come to recall we have a friend called someone who is just related to the problem we are having at a particular moment in time.

At noon today, received a call from a relative who was in Manchester for the day. But the dinner plans did not quite work out and so did not manage to meet up. The 'Fong Fei Kei Revenge' was the first thing in my mind. And make me thought of what I have been doing and how I treated others lately or even ever before this. I think I learn my ... not mistakes... but emm lack of attentiveness I can say all this while. May be it's time I put in more effort into maintaining relationships - close friends, not so close friends or possibly even acquaintances...

Being Lazy

Next week is reading week. And as a matter of fact I don't have any classes last week and this week. It was a long holiday for me. But I have loads of pre course reading to do. The problem is I haven't done much ><...sigh...

As the days passes, I felt the pressure more and more...it's like the whole sky falling over me soon. But on the other hand I have no motivation at all to start up the engine. The pressure is on but I am practically taking things too slow. Why can't I just be lazy...Oh man, life is never easy, I know. Sometimes I felt like being lazy...I guess I just need to chill out and take a break. But everything's coming all at once. At this moment, how i wish to be tucked in a big comfy bed with lots of pillows on it... in a beach resort somewhere in Maldives.

Ok ok I think I shouldn't be bragging on and on about how stressful my life is now. I guess there is always give and take. No pain no gain. And I really should be working ... work work work...sigh...

Bits of Diet Tips

"Diet???You must be kidding", says 'Never gain weight no matter how much he eats' male creature. Look around you, which female creature is not obssessed with the word 'diet'!!!...(Yes, I know there are exceptions)...

Formal dictionary definition for diet /'daiet/ n 2 a limited variety or amount of food that a person is allowed to eat and drink.

By now you probably would have tried different kinds of methods just to fit into that jeans you bought to motivate yourself. But hey you can look stunning in a one size bigger jeans of yours too.

Neway...had some lil bits of tips I read from some posh mags...
  1. Eat breakfast (never seem to work for me)...breakfast boost metabolism for the day.
  2. Eat 5 small portion meals a day instead of 3 huge ones.
  3. Drink unsweetened black coffee rather than indulging on a cuppa hot chocolate.
  4. Make Sundays diet-free if you are dieting the whole week. It has psychological benefits which helps convince your body its not starving.
  5. Apples, apples, apples. A research shows that one who eats an apple before every meal actually speed up weight loss (:S not quite interested in trying).
  6. Make orange juice your enemy. Make oranges your friend. Orange juice contain higher levels of sugar compared to a decent orange fruit.
  7. Don't eat only when your tummy calls for food. You tend to eat more.
  8. High fibre whole-grain bread is healthier and has an appetite-suppressing effect while plain white bread is an appetite simulator(ooo..).
  9. Eat yourself slim - chew food slowly and you'll eat less in the long run.
  10. A lil work out always help ;)...so sneak more exercise into your busy day by adding a quick five-min press up and sit-up session in the morning or at nite or any time you find yourself doing nothing productive. Studies show that raising your heartbeat twice a day as opposed to once results in bigger boost to your metabolism and burn more calories.

"There is only one success in life: To be able to live your life the way you want"
-Chistopher Morley-

22 years and still counting...yet I don't think I have live that long to know what I really want in life. Lets put it this way, I just don't know what can be or is the best for myself. Decisions, decisions...one of the nasty things that grows exponentially with age. A moment of thought made me realise that I am someone who seeks perfection most of the time. At least that is what some....some of my friends see me as I am. But I always deny it for the fact that I am pretty sure perfection is not something I seeked all these years. It was expectations and responsibilites; as a daughter, as a sister, as a friend.

"...live your life the way you want...."; personally, I interpreted this quote as being able to live in my dreams! Yes, my dream - a fairy tale come true for some people out there...and just not me. I have always ask myself what I wanted in life. The answer never did come up. The future is unpredictable, a definite fact but I do believe that what we do in present leads us to where our future lies. Future surprises us, brings us joy but also disappoint us in many ways. That is not because we could not determine fate. It is because every one of us live our own lives. And in the process, we 'affect' the fate of the ones close to us and those around us.

Being a hostage of life, I'd rather live life to the fullest, set small aims for myself and let life be. No regrets, if what you did is all that you can give.
